Understanding The Type Of Music Played By Wedding Bands In Traditional Indian Marriages

A traditional Indian wedding is generally considered incomplete without proper music and the trademark bands.  However, not many people are aware of the fact that the wedding bands play different types of music depending on the place of origin of the couple and their family but also the specific wedding function that is being performed. Contrary to what most people think, these bands can be hired for playing music not only while accompanying the Barat on the wedding day, but also for other functions, ceremonies and rituals. Discussed below are some common types of music played by the musical bands during wedding ceremonies.

  • Shenani Music: Playing shenani music is considered extremely auspicious in Indian weddings and while recorded CD’s of this music are available in the market, a live performance is definitely much preferred. Most often a professional Band wala in Delhi, would have at least a couple of trained shenani players for meeting the demands of clients who want to have live shenani music playing in the background throughout the entire wedding functions.

  • Bollywood Music: Now this is definitely the most popular genre of music played by band walas in Indian wedding. Although the latest hit songs from various Bollywood movies are the preferred choice, the band walas also need to be well versed with retro hits and old time classics to add variety to the music. In order to ensure, good quality music, a professional band for wedding in Delhi constantly train the musicians and make them practice the different tunes till they become perfect in playing the same.

  • Community Specific Music: Often the clients of wedding bands in Delhi might demand the band walas to play traditional music specific to their community. In such cases, the band walas need to be sure of the music that is considered auspicious for specific communities. In case the band walas are not aware of the music genre, they might outsource the task to some other agency that is familiar with the same. In this case the clients might need to pay a relatively higher sum to get the music of their choice.

  • Soft Music: While soft music is not generally played at Indian weddings, many clients might demand the same to feel relaxed and stress free after a hectic schedule. Soft music is also a preferred at the time when the bride departs from her parents’ home to go to her in-laws place. Likewise, soft music is also preferred during a reception or after-wedding get together. That is the time for the families to get to know each other better and the soft music playing in background provides a perfect ambience for the same.

A wedding Band wala in Delhi is trained to play diverse types of music with equal ease and perfection. This is one of the major reasons for the success and survival of traditional marriage bands despite the emergence of other forms of music over the years and constantly beating the competition in the industry.
